Abaco is known for it's quality carpentry due to the fact that most Abaconians are descended from boat builders. The cost for construction today is estimated at $250.00 per square ft. for wood frame construction and $350.00 per square ft. for concrete block construction. Once you have decided on a plan of your choice, you or your builder will then submit the plan to the town planning board for approval. This process normally takes one month. After the approval is granted, you can commence building. Heavy equipment is avaiable for hire on the island as well as landing barge services for remote areas. There is a supply boat that leaves the Port of Palm Beach weekly that will deliver supplies right to the dock. There are also several local hardware stores and lumber yards that maintain an excellent amount of inventory for building needs.
